Southampton FC Women made it 15 league wins out of 15 this season, as they won 3-0 at Barton Rovers to move closer to the Southern Region Women's Football League Premier Division title.

A trio of second-half goals from Marieanne Spacey-Cale's side gave them a crucial three points on the road, as they kept the initiative at the top of the table.

AFC Bournemouth CST's 3-1 win at Winchester City Flyers means Saints remain second on goal difference, but with two games in hand, and four points from their two games this week will seal the title.

It wasn't all straightforward for Spacey-Cale's team at Barton, though, with the hosts holding them at 0-0 for more than an hour.

Indeed, it took until the 69th minute for the visitors to make the breakthrough, as Shannon Sievwright was on hand to slam home a volley after Barton had cleared an initial effort from off the line.

Only a minute later and Saints were 2-0 up, as Rachel Woods, who was brought on at half-time, produced a wonderful goal, finding the top corner from 35 yards out.

From that point on, the points were secure, and Saints wrapped things up on 78 minutes when Wood's cross found Ellie Chaffe, who cut the ball across goal for Ella Pusey to finish.

Saints now host Warsash Wasps on Wednesday night at AFC Totton's Testwood Community Stadium (7.30pm), before facing Barton Rovers again, at Totton, next Sunday (2pm), when they could well seal the trophy.
